As part of Lamar University's Digital Leading and Learning program, I am learning to develop an innovative pilot project called "Blended Learning for Spanish Bilingual Students." I wish for this project to be implemented in my classroom, benefiting this population and my students who are in the 5th grade at Raymond Elementary School.

As part of my pilot project, addressing these language barriers will be essential. Implementing the Flex model and blended learning, which are pedagogical approaches that combine elements of traditional in-person education with technology and online learning methods, is crucial. Both models aim to leverage the best of both worlds to enhance the student learning experience. The Flex model emphasizes personalized learning, where students can work independently and receive individualized support as needed. Implementing the Flex model in a classroom with bilingual children can be beneficial to accommodate their individual needs and foster more personalized learning.

This flexible and personalized learning will allow students to have control over their learning process. Children will select the technological tools and online resources they will use for online learning. The system designs a flexible structure that enables students to choose when and how to access content and complete activities. This way, children will receive guidance on accessing online resources with language skills in both Spanish and English. They will learn how to organize their time for independent learning. The project structures the classroom in a way that utilizes various forms of assessment, such as projects and peer discussions, as well as teacher intervention and mentoring. Using blended learning for Spanish bilingual students allows them to have different scenarios such as study zones, individual language labs, collaboration groups, intervention, and mentoring, reinforcing language skills in English.

I desire the utmost support in this innovative pilot project, as I am passionate about education and believe in my children and their capacity to learn, as long as they receive the proper assistance. And as with any innovative thought, the possibilities for success always exist.
